News | Fall 2016
Nov. 13, 2016

It’s very hard to believe it is November 14th… this unseasonably warm weather makes it feel more like September! The 14-day forecast shows almost no sign of winter weather to come. While this warm fall weather has been great for fishing and camp work, it is sure to cut the ice fishing season a little short! We don't expect to be hard-water fishing until mid to late December. This unusual fall weather also presented a little bit of a challenge for our deer hunters, but nonetheless we've been making the most of it and enjoying the warm temps!

Enjoying some beautiful sunsets after some beautiful days this November!

Our last parties of fishermen and hunters left last week so we are now finishing the camp shut downs and getting ready for winter. Muskie fishing was fantastic again this fall on both Cedar Lake and the Indian Lake Chain. Our fishermen used the free live suckers that we provide and saw lots of action. There were quite a few caught in the high 40-inch range and there were even a couple of 50 + inchers caught on Cedar Lake. There were some nice Northerns caught as well and the Bass fishing was exceptionally good on the reefs. The Walleye fishing was good; they were found a little deeper (on the reefs) and once located, the action was really great. The Crappie fishing on Cedar this fall was outstanding... it took no time at all to limit-out! We were quite busy with fishermen this fall with a few even booking last minute because of the incredible weather.

As for hunting, the warm weather really affected the rut and it never did come on strong. Our deer hunters struggled more than usual this year. They saw lots of does and a number of small bucks, but the larger ones seemed to be only moving at night.

We certainly took advantage of this warm fall and got lots of work done at the camps and outposts. We were able to get lots of painting done and other small jobs between all three Drive-Ins and at the Outposts, along with a few bigger projects. We did new outhouses and walkways at McVicar, a new dock at Dobie, painting at Shabumeni, Pusher, and Antenna, a new roof at Grace, and finalized some upgrades at the three new lakes. The main house at Clark’s Camp got a brand new wall, windows, and deck completed with wrap-around seating. Cabin #1 at Northern Lights got new windows, and cabin #15 at K.C.’s is getting an overhaul. These are just a few of the projects that have been keeping us busy this fall. We’ve got lots of work planned for the winter and we will be sure to share pictures and stories of our adventures!
