Well, we made our first trip to Anishinabi this winter one week ago, today. We couldn’t wait any longer for the snow to come. We had to get our new wood stove and new chimney set up in the lodge and haul in our new ice shacks. The trip was somewhat challenging with only 3 inches of snow on the road and next to nothing in the bush! Being a 40-mile run, it was a little tough on the skiis. We had to do some extra cutting in the bush along with filling in the holes with brush in place of snow. We did end up getting into a couple of our portage lakes and got a couple shacks set up ready for January Trout and Walleye fishing. The good news is the ice is good and so far there is no slush. THANKFULLY our Christmas wish came true and we got a nice layer of fluffy snow so the next trip in should go MUCH smoother! There’s more snow in the forecast too… shaping up to be a great winter for fishing.
