Not a lot has changed in the last week with the ice conditions. We had a week of cool weather and got about 6 inches of snow. Winter is not ready to leave us just yet.
The ice thickness on most area lakes has not changed. With the cool temperatures and heavy snowfall the ice has not melted at all. The temperatures are supposed to stay cool until about the middle of next week. We are supposed to get another few inches of snow this weekend, which along with the cool temperature will definitely prolong the ice out.
The heavy snow has increased currents in the rivers, creeks, and narrows so extra caution should be taken when traveling in those areas. Increased current can cause areas of thin ice. Once it gets warm (and stays warm), the snow should melt quickly and along with the increase in currents, the ice should melt fast. We need the temperatures to stay warm, though, and no more snow! Bottom line, we are still predicting ice out at the end of April/beginning of May.
